The “Introduction to BIM” course of the European Digital Innovation Hub in Construction Association starts on September 30, 2024 and lasts 4 days – classes will be held on September 30 – October 1 and on October 8 – 9, in person in the EDIH training room. The next “Introduction to BIM” course is planned to be held in the period October 30-31, 2024 and November 7-8, 2024, and you can register for participation here.
The training courses from the EDIH catalog related to the use of BIM capabilities are the most numerous (20 in total), with a view to achieving comprehensive coverage of the subject in all areas of using BIM in the construction and investment process (BIM covers the entire life cycle of buildings – from design, through construction management and operation to possible demolition and waste recovery). Specialized BIM training courses provide knowledge and skills for working with specific software for managing the entire construction and investment process in construction, which is a key element not only for the digitalization of the industry, but also for the development of the circular economy in Bulgaria.

The introductory course in BIM is intended for professionals in the field of architecture, engineering and construction such as architects, engineers, team managers and lead designers. The minimum requirements for participants are secondary technical education and professional experience in applying computer methods using specialized software.

The course is divided into 7 modules that cover different aspects of BIM:

  1. An introduction to BIM, which includes basic concepts and definitions, history and development of BIM, as well as its impact on architecture, engineering, and construction.
  2. BIM processes and standards.
  3. BIM software and tools.
  4. Collaboration and coordination in BIM, which includes information and data exchange between BIM software and formats, communication in BIM projects, coordination and collision detection, as well as collaboration and communication in the GeoBIM environment.
  5. Sustainability and BIM, which includes energy efficiency and BIM analysis, energy systems modeling and renewable energy integration, as well as sustainable building certification and BIM application.
  6. BIM and asset management, which includes building life phases and BIM, asset management and BIM integration, BIM and building maintenance and operations management, BIM and GIS integration for infrastructure facility maintenance and operations management.
  7. ERP systems for managing the production and compliance of construction materials and products.
Lecturers are university professors and proven specialists from the construction sector in Bulgaria, who, in addition to the theoretical part, will also be presented with practical demonstrations. The training will end with an exam to assess the achieved results.
The main goal of the training is to improve the qualifications of construction specialists by acquiring skills for using building information modeling (more popularly known by its abbreviation in English BIM – Building Information Modeling) in the investment process.
The course was opened by the head of the Association “EDIH in the Construction Sector” – Ms. Nakova, who wished success and briefly presented information about the training to the participants:
“Today’s course is one of the most important introductory trainings, because it is an introduction to BIM. In 4 days you will receive all the necessary theoretical training from more than 10 lecturers who will introduce you to BIM from their perspective, because in the coming months the practical trainings will also begin.”
