In 2019, CO2 emissions from construction, the giant industry we interact with every day, increased to an all-time high, accounting for 38% of global energy-related CO2 emissions. As an industry that employs 7% of the world’s working population, and with 68% of the world’s population set to live in urban areas by 2050, stakeholders in the sector need to take responsibility for reducing emissions and creating a sustainable and net-zero future for all. Namely, VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) technology and IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) methodology are examples of sustainable practices that allow for virtual construction before physical construction sites are completed, optimizing the project not only in terms of finance, schedule, procurement and risk management, but also in terms of reducing emissions, waste and carbon footprint. 6D BIM ensures the implementation of sustainability in thinking, actions and business processes in the construction industry. 6D BIM is used to assess the sustainability and energy efficiency of the building. Special emphasis in the course is placed on the assessment of the carbon footprint and strategies for its reduction through 6D BIM.
The EDIH course “BIM: Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Design and Carbon Footprint Assessment” provides solutions to all these questions. It is aimed at experts involved in construction and investment design, project management, consulting and supervision activities or administration.
The course presents basic concepts, activities and good practices when working with information technology and digital tools of a general professional nature. The training includes a total of 3 modules in 2 days. The first is an introduction to BIM and sustainable design. The second module is about sustainable design and energy optimization through 6D BIM. The third module offers training on carbon footprint assessment through 6D BIM.
