The Higher School of Civil Engineering “Lyuben Karavelov"
The Higher School of Civil Engineering “Lyuben Karavelov”, aka USEA, aka VSU “Lyuben Karavelov” – Sofia is the legal successor of the specialized Civil Engineering Military School, established in 1938 upon a Decree issued by H.H. Tsar Boris III.
VSU “L. Karavelov” is a State School of Higher Vocational Education.
Its public mission is:
- to train Bulgarian and foreign citizens to acquire tertiary education degrees in “Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy”;
to maintain the level of the European dimensions throughout
- the entire students’ educational process;
- to carry out scientific research and applied practice activity in the field of construction and architecture;
- to perform a high quality qualification activity.
VSU “L. Karavelov” has a long tradition in the process of teaching and training specialists of higher education qualifications in the field of construction; the school offers an up-to-date academic process of combined contemporary approach to all undergraduates.
Over the period of its existence, VSU “L. Karavelov” has educated more than 5,100 specialists, of which over 300 are foreign nationals.
Today, the school molds and prepares highly qualified construction cadres in/at all educational cycles like professional bachelor, bachelor, master, and doctor.
The school conducts research and applied practice activities. VSU maintains international relations, as it supports students’ and teachers’ academic exchange programs with universities from countries of the European Community.
Graduates from VSU “L. Karavelov” have broad opportunities for realization in life and adaptation in a wide range of activities in the vast field of Construction.
Most VSU graduates have secured a permanent place in the Construction Industry as famous, reliable, and respectable construction businessmen; practicing engineers, both at home and abroad; good leaders and skilled managers at various levels in the public and private sectors; also, teachers in higher and secondary schools; dedicated scientists, and others.
VSU “L. Karavelov” is located in the southwestern part of Sofia, placed across an ecologically clean area, as its buildings are spread over 106 acres of parkland with beautiful views to both Vitosha and Lyulin mountains.
The school possesses a range of tangible assets like educational, information and sports premises, as it naturally makes a complete educational complex with the necessary administrative, educational, residential, social, cultural, and sports buildings and facilities.
