Representatives of various construction companies visited one of the most attractive training courses of the Association “European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) in the construction sector” – “Opportunities for the application of unmanned aerial vehicles in construction”. For three days, owners and employees of small and medium-sized companies, architects and designers had the opportunity to learn about the use of drones in the implementation of projects in various construction areas, and after completing it, they gave a high rating for the knowledge gained. The course was led by Eng. Yordan Hristev, Director of “Geodesy and Surveying” at Geostroy – a company co-founder of EDIH in the construction sector.
The training on the use of drones took place in three stages. During the first stage, the participants were introduced to the possibilities and benefits of working with unmanned aerial vehicles in the construction industry, as well as information on drone control. The participants also examined in detail the requirements for operators and the specifics of the aircraft models. The theoretical part also provided an opportunity to get acquainted with the functionality of various software that are used in the preparation of a flight plan and in processing the captured material.
During the practical part, which was the second stage of the training, the participants were given the opportunity to operate a professional high-end drone. They visited one of the sites being built by Geostroy – a metro station next to the Obelya railway station with a tunnel connection to the Obelya metro depot. Each of them flew over and filmed in order to examine and create a 3D model. The third stage involved processing the captured material. This was done using the Pix4Dmapper software product and auxiliary processing programs.
The participants highly appreciated the knowledge they gained and recommend the course to their colleagues in the industry. “The course was very useful to me. I learned new things and expanded my knowledge,” shared Zhoro Angelov. He also commented that the most valuable thing for him was the opportunity to combine theory with practice by filming the newly built metro station in Obelya. “The new software that was presented to us, combined with all the knowledge of the lecturer related to geodesy, with the filming of a point cloud, the centering of the frames, the processing – this is simply wonderful,” said Angelov, adding that he would recommend the course to everyone involved in architecture and geodesy, as well as to all drone operators who want to help in construction.
The training fully met the expectations of Milena Kamenova, who has significantly improved her knowledge. “The course is very useful. I would recommend it because you can acquire great skills in a short time, and the material is presented in an accessible and understandable way.”
The course is part of the catalog of training courses conducted by the European Digital Innovation Hub in the construction sector.
The next training on the topic “Possibilities for the application of unmanned aerial vehicles in construction” is planned to be held in the period 03-05.12.2024.
